FAQs

General

We are known for making vintage-inspired cardigan sweaters with ribbon trim.

All Noyac Knit sweaters are designed and knit right here in the USA in Brooklyn, New York using high quality imported yarn -- including superfine merino wool, EcoViscose, and long-staple Egyptian cotton. Did you know mills in Brooklyn used to make more than 50% of sweaters sold in the U.S. We are committed to fostering local business and are proud to be part of a movement to bring knitting back to the U.S. Noyac Knits: locally made, globally refined.

We offer cardigans in various lengths and styles, as well as sleeveless sweaters for twin sets or to wear alone, and pullover sweaters.

All three styles share our signature grosgrain ribbon trim and are made in the USA from premium imported yarns — but each has its own personality. Classic: hip-length, tailored fit, crew neck. Crop: waist-length, slightly relaxed — great with high-waisted skirts. Puff-sleeve: just above hip with feminine puff sleeves for a more statement look.

The grosgrain ribbon trim is our signature — and what makes a Noyac Knits cardigan instantly recognizable. Each ribbon is carefully hand-applied by skilled sewers, adding a refined, playful detail that elevates classic knitwear into something special. It's the kind of detail that makes people ask, "Where did you get that?"

Yes! We design and knit our sweaters in the United States from high quality imported yarns.

Yes! Our customers wear their ribbon sweaters everyday - for work and play. We make them in happy colors so when you put them on you feel like you are wearing a smile.

Both! Wear them alone for a polished, minimal look, or layer under a ribbon cardigan for a coordinated twin set — a modern preppy staple.

Our creative process involves carefully selecting each ribbon, yarn and button combination to create unique sweaters. There are endless shades of pinks, greens, blues, and purples that we consider to create a color pallet for each color combination. Some of our ribbons are vintage and not readily available. Some patterns we have chosen to make only a limited quantity so they are special for each customer. We want you to LOVE your special sweater and know that it is not mass produced but rather made for you. Sign up for an email notice to learn about new color combinations.

We do not offer this customization at this time. However, please send us your wish list combinations at info@noyacknits.com. You never know.

Fabrics and Materials

We use high quality imported yarns that are 100% merino wool and 100% cotton. Some of our products are made from imported EcoViscose. All of our yarns are Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified.

We use Biella Yarn, a beautiful extrafine merino wool. The wool comes from sustainably-minded farms in Australia who comply with the IWTO animal welfare rules. It is then processed and dyed in Italy and Romania. This fabric is biodegradable and Bluesign certified. The yarn has a soft feel that is comfortable even against bare skin. It is Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified.

No! Our superfine merino wool has a soft feel that is naturally hypoallergenic. It is lightweight, breathable, naturally moisture wicking. It provides a perfect layer but also can be worn on its own against bare skin.

We use Filmar cotton produced in Italy and sourced primarily from Egypt, known for long and extra long fibers that make for superior thread. This cotton is BCI (Better Cotton Initiative), ZDHC (Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals), and Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified, made with a low environmental impact in mind. Our cotton sweaters are durable, soft against the skin, and machine washable.

EcoViscose is an easy-care stretch viscose that wears well all year round. We use Lenzing Ecovero in our EcoViscose knitwear produced in Austria, China and Indonesia. The Viscose is derived from certified renewable wood sources. It meets FSC standard to help create a cleaner environment. It is also Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified. Our EcoViscose knits are also made with 28% PBT, which is a high performance polyester that offers natural, long-lasting elasticity to the knits. This fabric is smooth and soft to the touch with a slight stretch, machine washable, antibacterial, and moisture wicking.

We source our ribbon from New York, and all our grosgrain ribbon is woven in the U.S. Some is vintage and hard to find or available in limited quantities. We are proud to support American ribbon makers.

Grosgrain ribbon is a woven ribbon with a distinctive horizontal weave. It is durable and lustrous in appearance. Its history dates back to the 17th century when it was first used for trimmings on clothing. U.S. ribbon makers are known for their striped designs. We celebrate U.S. ribbon makers and use ribbon made in American mills. Some of our ribbon is vintage and not readily available. All of our ribbon is carefully selected and paired with our sweaters to create unique combinations that can only be found at Noyac Knits.

Our specially dyed resin buttons are made in America to coordinate with our ribbons and yarns. Our shell buttons are from Japan. We source our buttons from the famous LouLou Buttons in New York City.

Care and Fit

It depends on the fabric.

Merino wool should be dry-cleaned for best results. However, merino wool also can be hand washed in cold water and laid flat to dry.

Our cotton and EcoViscose sweaters are machine washable. These should be washed in a delicate cycle in cold water and laid flat to dry.

If needed, they can be ironed on low heat. The ribbon trim can be ironed on cool/low heat setting using a press cloth.

Yes. Use a cool/low heat setting and use a press cloth. Another option is to turn sweater inside out and iron reverse side of ribbon placket.

Always fold — never hang — to prevent stretching. Store in a cool, dry place. For seasonal storage, use breathable cotton bags with cedar or lavender sachets to deter moths.

Each product page includes a detailed size guide with measurements and model information. Our classic cardigans — like the Julie and Kate — have a tailored, modern preppy fit: polished without being restrictive. Crop and puff-sleeve styles run slightly more relaxed. For all sizing questions, please refer to the size guide on each product page.

For classic and crop cardigans, size up for a looser fit. For puff-sleeve styles, size down for a more fitted look. For the boatneck pullover, size up for a relaxed drape. For oversized styles like the Cooper Cable-Knit, size down for a standard fit.

In general, our sweaters run true to size. Please see size guides for each style for more details about specific length, sleeve and bust measurements.

Yes! Our classic cardigan is 15-gauge, which is a thin knit that works well as a layer under a blazer. Our sleeveless sweaters also work well under a jacket and are great for travel.

All our yarns are Oeko-Tex Standard 100. Our merino wool is from RWS (Responsible Wool Standard) certified farms. Made in the USA also means a shorter, more transparent supply chain.

Every Noyac Knits piece represents a conscious choice to invest in American fashion and sustainable practices. We chose to use premium, environmentally-friendly imported yarns, to knit our pieces in the United States and support American suppliers from New York's historic fashion district, and hand-select and add special ribbon detail. All of this increases the cost of production. The bottom line is: every Noyac Knits piece represents a conscious choice to invest in American fashion and sustainable practices.
